Happiness in our culture is often made an equivalent to thinness. However, these targets we set for ourselves are often a reflection of the negative feelings we foster about our own appearance and are not defined by some measurable goal. For some, these negative thoughts could just be a nagging daily reminder to exercise more, or choose a healthier option at lunch. However, for some, these negative thoughts can manifest themselves into long lasting low self esteem and depression. The truth is, sure you could get a temporary high from squeezing into your skinny jeans, but losing weight certainly isn’t the key to loving life. That’s because your happiness doesn’t—and shouldn’t—depend on just your weight or your physical appearance. You are more than just a body. You are a soul defined by your relationships, your personality, your sense of humor, your ability to listen to others and so so many others things. So if happiness and self acceptance is your goal, know this: losing weight won’t necessarily make you happier, appreciating what’s on the inside will.
